ECOLA STATE PARK + HUG POINT

seattle wedding photographer

Hi! I'm Natasha! Your elopement photographer, dog petter and donut eater. While photography is my first love, connecting with people is my love language. You'll find me lovin' on the big moments, the quiet moments, the silly moments – but especially the in between moments. The moments that are unadulterated and unfiltered. The ones where you are the real you. Here on the blog you'll find all of my favorite tips, tricks and resources for planning an elopement that's all about those moments.

THE COUPLE

Anmol and Parm. Wowowowow. WHAT A COUPLE. These two first reached out to me in September, hoping for an engagement session sometime in the spring, filled with romantic coastal vibes, full of life and moody goodness. Their wedding would be coming up next summer, so they wanted to do something BIG for their engagement session to really get the party started. But this wasn't gonna be any standard engagement session, no siiiiiir! They knew right off the bat that this needed to feel extra special, so we hopped on a Zoom call and immediately started planning their Back Roads Session (one of my favorite ways to pack multiple locations or activities in to make an engagement or couples session feel like more of a story about your life rather than a portrait session).

But come November, they decided why wait any longer? Let's just do it now! So we planned for the first week of December. Come December though, after a change in travel plans we rescheduled to January. Come January, the day we were supposed to go out to the coast we had a wild winter storm that left us with single digit temps and king tides (freezing your ass off is not exactly the best way to get those dreamy natural photos lol). So we waited till February, and BOOM I'm SO glad that we did, because it couldn't have been any better. A 60 degree sunny day on the coast in February?! Unheard of. But the stars aligned for us that day and it couldn't have been more beautiful.

PLANNING AN OREGON COAST ENGAGEMENT

Okay, so full disclosure, we didn't initially plan for an Oregon Coast engagement, but lemme tell you why we ended up going this route instead. The Oregon Coast is arugably one of the most beautiful places in the world (no exaggeration, NatGeo named it one of the top 100 in the world!) and for good reason. The Oregon Coast has some of the most diverse landscape in the country. With coastal redwoods, sandstone and basaltic cliffs, beach waterfalls, towering sea stacks, some of the best tide pooling out there, not to mention the insanely beautiful sunsets. And no matter what time of year it is, it's ALWAYS beautiful. So since Anmol and Parm were living in Portland, OR, it was only right that we visit some place so beautiful and so close.

But you're probably here because you're thinking about having your own Oregon Coast engagement, right? So here are some of my best tips for planning yours:

  • First choose what sort of location you want to visit. Do you want big trees? Sandy beaches? Hidden coves? Towering sea stacks? If you're looking for some ideas for where to go check out our blog for The Best Places to Elope on the Oregon Coast (because if they're good enough for an elopement, they're sure as hell gonna be perfect for an engagement, right?)
  • Make sure to check the tides before you plan what time you want to visit and try to choose a day where low day lines up with that pretty evening light if possible! You can find out what the tides will be through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration website here!
  • Want to include some activities? Consider adding in some of your favorite things to do to make your photos feel more like "you". If you're wanting to plan something that's more personalized than your standard engagement portrait session, then a Back Roads session might be for you! Let's talk about it.

SO WHAT IS AN OREGON COAST ENGAGEMENT BACK ROADS SESSION?

So what even is an Oregon Coast Back Roads Session? Well...I'm glad you asked. Because it's my favorite type of photo session for couples who want something that more than your standard short engagement portrait session. Back Roads sessions are geared towards planning a day where we take the back roads together (see what I did there? 😏)

Back Roads Sessions are typically 4 hours, every session is planned to be uniquely intimate to your lives. We'll spend the day exploring your favorite places, visiting 3-4 spots (this could be places that are sentimental to you, new places, or even just spent in your home), documenting an intimate day in the life of you. Each session is carefully curated so that every detail is meaningful, every step along the way infusing your personalities into the photos. So you have photos of who you really are, as you move through your day.

Sound like exactly what you've been wanting for your engagement photos?
