Hi! We're Natasha and Brian! Your elopement photographer and videographer duo. When we're not petting every dog on the trail, or driving around dirt roads you'll find us lovin' on the big moments, the quiet moments, the silly moments – but especially the in between moments. The moments that are unadulterated and unfiltered. The ones where you are the real you. Here on the blog you'll find all of my favorite tips, tricks and resources for planning a wedding that's all about those moments.

Choose the right elopement videographer for you

One of the most important (if not THE most important!) parts of finding the right person to make your elopement video is something that's so simple that it's often overlooked. Wanna take a guess?

It's finding an elopement videographer that you like. Stupid simple, I know. But it's probably not for the reason you think! Finding the right elopement videographer for you isn't just about finding someone who can create your elopement video. It's about finding a videographer who's personality you LOVE above all else.

And here's why:

Your elopement videographer is going to spend the majority of your wedding day with you. A day where emotions run high, you may be out of your comfort zone for some of it, you may feel a little vulnerable (you're professing your love for each other on an emotional day after all!), so finding someone that you feel you can be yourself with should be at the very top of your priority list when hiring a videographer.

Find someone who genuinely feels like a friend to you. Someone you feel like you can be your weird, wonderful, goofy, silly, teary self with. Someone who makes you feel the most you. The right videographer for you will know just how to make you feel like yourself in your video, without putting you in uncomfortable situations. Just like a friend would.

Choose an elopement videographer who's style you align with

Choosing an elopement videographer who's style you align goes hand in hand with finding someone who's personality you absolutely love. But let's talk about video style. Because each style is very different from the other, and each one will mean something different based on what your want your elopement video to feel like.

We often judge a book by it's cover. As you should when it comes to elopement videos! The whole point is that it's very visual, so your first instinct is absolutely going to be to choose someone based on what their elopement video style is.

For example, our style of videography is all film based. Every video we shoot is all on real super 8mm film, shot on vintage cameras, and everything is captured documentary style. No posing, no acting, no staging things that aren't true to how your day actually feels. The only time we ever ask you to do something specific is if we want you to repeat something you did naturally, or we'll give you prompts to help you move in a way that's natural to how you already do. And this is perfect if you want dreamy photos and videos of what your elopement day actually felt like. The perfect blend of nostalgia and raw, real, intentional documentation. Super 8mm film captures memories in a way that feels honest and special. Like looking at home videos of your childhood, or of your grandparents at their wedding. Warm, cozy, and perfectly genuinely.

Here are some examples of our favorite films we've created!

Make sure your videographer's package is right for you.

Shopping around for elopement video packages can be...overwhelming to say the least. How do you know how much time you need? How do you choose what sort of package you'll want?

Choose an elopement video package that ideally has the same amount of time as your elopement photography package. A typical day elopement can range anywhere from 8-12+ hours from all the way up to multiple day elopement celebrations! The beauty of eloping is that you can customize it to your exact vision.

You could be eloping with just the two of you and want to go all out on adventures like horseback riding, surfing, hiking, any activity you can think of! Some couples want to spread things out across a multiple days to take advantage of different badass locations and activities.

Choose a package based on what sort of activities you want to do through out the day. Your wedding day schedule shouldn't be dictated by what poses your photos will be, but instead your photos and video should be a reflection of what your day was like. Your wedding day isn't a film production, it's a celebration of you. So plan how much time you'll need in your package based on what you would like to do on your wedding day. We touched on this in the section above on how to choose the right elopement video package for you, but the BEST way to plan the perfect elopement day, is to focus on these two things:

  1. How you want your elopement day to feel, what your want your memories to feel like
  2. What sort of activities you'd like to include

Once you have these parameters for yourself, it makes the rest of your planning easy! When focusing on how you want your elopement day to feel, one of the best ways to nail this down is to think about what's important to you. Do you want your elopement to be relaxing? Exciting? Packed with new experiences and adrenaline? Do you want it to feel romantic and dreamy? Silly and goofy? Not too serious? This will dictate what experiences you should include.

And speaking of, your experiences should reflect how you want your day to feel! If you want an action packed, adrenaline filled day maybe you'll include activities like surfing, sky diving, kayaking, hiking a big mountain and doing your ceremony surrounded by your loved ones cheering you on, shot gunning a beer at the top.

If you want your elopement day to feel more romantic and serene, maybe you'll plan for vows in a quiet mossy forest, with no one there but you two, a first dance on the beach at sunset, snuggling up by the fire as the stars come out. It all depends on how you want your day to feel!

The right elopement photographer and videographer will guide you through this whole process too, so you never have to worry if you're planning it right. (:

Bonus: What to do after you get your elopement video

Woohoo! So you've eloped, and you got your elopement video back! You've absolutely fallen in love with your video, it turned even better than you ever imagined, so how do you keep that magic going? Here are a few different ways you can make the most of your elopement video:

Prioritize watching it every year. Maybe this could be on your anniversary, maybe for the holidays, maybe just when you feel like it! But use it as an excuse to celebrate.

Have a watch party with your friends and family!

Make sure you keep it in multiple safe places. This means downloading it as soon as you get it back from your elopement videographer onto a hard drive or flash drive AND uploading it to a cloud service like Dropbox or Google Drive (both is even better). You can never be too careful with your elopement video. The more places you can store it, the safer it'll be!
